Hearing Voices

2 Aug

They say three’s a crowd. No one likes to be the third wheel. So it’s out of consideration that I won’t run with you. It’s not you, it’s me. It would just be awkward and uncomfortable anyway. You see I’ve already got a running partner and he’s the jealous type. I mean I am. I mean he is. We both are. Wha??

Eating My Words

31 Jul

I thought this blog was for you. I started this blog because I wanted to inspire others to be more active and make lifestyle choices that promote wellness. Those words even sound like fluff as I type them. This blog has come full circle to bite me in the backside. I’ve been lapped by myself and now I’m eating my own words. Apparently this blog is for me. click to read more

The Trainer, Session 4

19 Jul

I’ll miss this series. It’s been fun to write about. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the continuing adventure. There’s one more to go! I fear a grand finale is in the works. In the last post I said my trainer might be moving to Florida. Well, no such luck. Game back on. click to read more

It’s All Downhill From Here

17 Jul

On Sunday I woke up to find that someone had broken into my room the night before with a hammer and nailed a note into each quadricep muscle. The first one read, “‘I hate you.’ Sincerely, Your Body.” The other note read, “‘Thanks for the play-date!!’ Love, Seven Hills Road.” This is the worst my muscles have felt since my first half-marathon two years ago. If you plan on running a race with any kind of hills in the near future you need to learn from my mistake. Really, I’m finding that this is what this blog is about; I screw up and you get to laugh at me and learn from it. I’m strangely okay with this. I’m a team player. click to read more

The Trainer, Session 3

12 Jul

If you missed my first post entitled “The Trainer,” you should click the link and check that out first. I just finished the third session with my trainer yesterday. I am now a mega-cut beef-cake. Which reminds me at the onset. Anything I say about my trainer on this blog, stays on the blog. You have no idea how much I fear this woman. click to read more

Every Run is a Story (What’s Yours?)

10 Jul

There are so many reasons I love my wife that I couldn’t possibly list them all and you’d probably puke a third of the way through. We’re cuter than you can probably handle. So in an effort to keep your laptop keys vomit-free I’ll just focus on one reason I love my wife; She listens to me. She listens to me a lot. I’m an introvert, which I think is code for “I like my thoughts better than what you’re trying to tell me.” click to read more

Get Your Own Race Bro

5 Jul

One-hundred percent of this blog up till this point has been positive and uplifting and I plan to keep it overwhelmingly so, but can I go on a bit of a rant? Am I allowed every now and then? I’ll shoot for ninety-eight percent positive, but I feel it imperative to warn you against becoming the kind of guy outlined in this post. Trust me, you don’t want to be this guy. click to read more…

Speed Freaks

3 Jul

As I type these words there is a cool wind that rushes past me at regular, seventy second intervals. It’s a welcome punctuation on a scorching summer day in downtown Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Such predictability is man made of course and in this case it’s man powered.

A pack of one-hundred cyclists blasting past at 30 MPH, wheel-to-wheel in a ninety minute battle, ten feet in front of my iPad screen is an exhilarating way to compose a post. Swatches of spandex color blurs into undulating graffiti on the brick main-street businesses. It’s almost beautiful. Wait, did I just type that out-loud?? *sputtering* I mean the color blur, not the spandex. Yeah. click to read more…

50 Miles, Take 2

22 Jun

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but you also can’t teach a young dog old tricks until he stops barking up the wrong tree. I have no idea what I meant by that, but I’m going to try to run 50 miles again! This post begins a sporadic series within the blog in which I’ll chronicle my training and preparations en route to completing my first official ultra marathon race. click here to read more…

The Trainer

20 Jun

Never, EVER tell a personal trainer that you run marathons because they will probably make two assumptions: one, that you are in shape and two, that you like pain. Click the “read more” button below to learn about how a woman standing 5’7″ almost made me cry.
